Our Story

Riverview United Methodist Church was founded in 1966 as a mission outpost north of Minneapolis in the transitional suburban/rural community of Brooklyn Park, Minnesota.  Brooklyn Park has changed dramatically over the last four decades, and in place of the farmland that once dominated the landscape, there are housing developments that large numbers of immigrants from all over the world call home.

The African United Methodist Fellowship, founded in September of 2007, was created to reach out specifically to West Africans in the same community.  The two congregations joined forces on December 9, 2007, with a covenant to worship separately, but to approach our mission with an eye toward partnership.  The relationship, though young, is growing and we are exploring new ways of living life together as sibling ministries sharing the same facility.
